Truckee left no doubt in defending its state football title.
The Wolverines raced past SLAM Academy, 35-14, on Saturday at Mackay Stadium to win the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association state championship for Class 3A. The Wolverines went 13-0 this season, and after winning the last nine games of 2022, they’ll take a 22-game winning streak into next year.
Joe Birnbaum proved his status as the 3A-North Player of the Year as he scored the first three touchdowns for Truckee, the first on a 76-yard run. Birnbaum then scored on runs of 21 and 5 yards as the Wolverines went into halftime ahead 21-7.
