The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, the 501c3 non- profit governing body of high school sports in the Silver State, is proud to present a special award each year to the team with the highest-grade point average in each sport per classification.
The NIAA also recognizes those varsity student-athletes who achieved a 4.0 GPA the previous semester by naming them to the All-State Academic Team. The team grade point average is determined by taking the individual GPA’s of varsity team members from last semester and then computing an overall average. The NIAA and Jostens, the NIAA’s awards partner, consider this state academic championship award to Orbe equal to the athletic championship award. As the NIAA, coaches, and administrators should always stress, the participants are students first, then athletes.
