South Lake Tahoe

The South Lake Tahoe Vikings

Truckee hasn’t played South Tahoe since 2019 when they dominated the Vikings. Much has happened since then. Their head coach, Louis Franklin, has since made his way back to the Valley from which he came. Just one week into his new position, Coach Cheek, had to deal with the Caldor Fire as it was making its way through the Tahoe basin displacing his family and many of his players. That’s how the 2021 Viking season began. The Vikings struggled in 2021 winning just one game vs. Hug. South Tahoe has graduated a lot of talent over the past two years and they are now in a rebuilding phase with a new coach. The Vikings have always struggled with numbers and it will be interesting to see where they are in 2022. Lets hope they can field two teams all year and have some success. Truckee will look for their 21st Sierra Bowl victory at home this season. In 2014 the two programs renamed this game “The Sierra Bowl” and created a trophy. This put more on the line for both teams and South Tahoe appeared to be on their way of capturing the game’s first trophy. The Vikings went into halftime leading the struggling Wolverines 19-0. Truckee came out swinging playing the most inspired football they have played in 2 seasons. Truckee rallied and went on a 22-0 run. The comeback was complete when Tanner Sawyer took a Punt return up the right sideline for a 62-yard touchdown! Truckee won 22-19, took the trophy, and hasn’t given it up.
